STYRKET UDDANNELSESSAMARBEJDE MELLEM DANMARK OG SYRIEN - STUDY IN EUROPE DAY IN LATAKIA
Styrket uddannelsessamarbejde mellem Syrien og Danmark – Study in Europe Day in Latakia
Approximately 3.500 people visited the Study in Europe Day at the Tishreen University in Latakia on 23 November. It was the second time the European Commission in Syria arranged Study in Europe Day in cooperation with the member countries.
The fair had great priority to the Danish Embassy as a follow up to the visit of the Danish Minister of Science in October and the agreement to strengthen educational cooperation between Syria and Denmark.
The purpose of the fair was to provide Syrian students with information about how to study in Europe and European universities. A great number of embassies as well as cultural institutes and EU education organisations were represented at the fair.
The Danish stand was placed centrally by the entrance of the library and attracted a lot of attention from the eager Syrian students. The great library hall was hardly prepared before the students rushed to the different stands.
The Danish Embassy had worked together with CIRIUS and a number of Danish universities, college universities and it was therefore possible to provide the Syrian students with a lot of brochures, postcards, flyers and information about studying in Denmark and also promote Danish universities. In the afternoon the Deputy Head of Mission gave a presentation on the Danish education system and how to study in Denmark. It was clear that the interest in studying in Denmark was tremendous.
The Syrian student showed great curiosity about studying in Denmark but also about Denmark and the Danish people. For many of the students it was their first encounter with Denmark. The Study in Europe Day was a great opportunity to tell about Denmark and the Danish education system as Danish–Syrian cooperation is beginning to take shape.
On 23 November the Embassy also met with the President of Tishreen University and the Vice-minister of Higher Education to discuss Danish-Syrian cooperation. They expressed great enthusiasm for the collaboration and welcomed potential Danish Students at Tishreen University.
All in all it the Study in Europe Day was a success and the overwhelming interest and shows great prospects for a future educational partnership.
